On Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, Theola B. Southwell, 97, of New Hamburg, passed away.

Mrs. Southwell was a bookkeeper for Mid Hudson Electric Supply Co., Poughkeepsie for ten years. She retired in 1967 from Office Work at AC Dutton Co., Poughkeepsie and worked as an aide at Glenham School until 93.

She was a lifetime member of Ladies Auxiliary, New Hamburg Yacht Club, a member of Friendly House Senior Citizen Group, a lifetime member of the Episcopal Church and was born when the Chapel in New Hamburg was built, which is now St. Nicholas on the Hudson Episcopal Church. She was also a member of Altar Guild Ladies Auxiliary and was post mistress of New Hamburg Post Office. Her church membership was St. Nicholas on the Hudson Episcopal Church.

Born March 17, 1902, in Wappingers Falls, she was the daughter of Harry and Jemima Smith Brower. She married Percy M. Southwell on March 17, 1934 in St. Augustine, Florida. Mr. Southwell died Jan. 4, 1940. She is survived by a daughter, Norma J. Sampson, New Hamburg, with whom she resided; two granddaughters and their husbands, Bonnie and James Johnson, Bridgeville, DE; Wendy and Joseph Zinko, Washingtonville, NY; and a grandson, David Sampson of New Hamburg with whom she also resided; four great-grandchildren and several cousins and a niece.

Funeral services were held at St. Nicholas on the Hudson Episcopal Church with the Rev. J. Donald Bane, Priest in Charge, officiating. Place of burial was the Wappingers Falls Cemetery, Wappingers Falls. In lieu of flowers, contributions were made in memory of Theola to St. Nicholas on the Hudson, 37 Point St., New Hamburg, NY 12590.
