| Some Quick Facts About The Church of St. Nicholas on the Hudson New Hamburg, NY |
As early as 1876 worship and Sunday School in the Episcopal tradition were conducted in New Hamburg. In 1903 the building was dedicated as a Chapel of Zion Episcopal Church, Wappinger Falls. The congregation became independent of Zion Church in 1982, adopting as their patron Nicholas, Bishop of Myra in Asia Minor in the Fourth Century, whose generosity and concern for children and sailors were the real life source of the legends we know as "Santa Claus". The heart of the congregation's life is the Sunday Eucharist at 10 o'clock, when we gather |

- to celebrate God's gifts of love and new life experienced through Jesus Christ - to be empowered for service in demonstrating that love and life - to pray for the church and the world (your requests for prayers for particular persons or concerns are welcomed) - to consecrate important events in our lives, from birth to death, through the church's sacraments |
As part of the Episcopal Church, which succeeded the Church of England in America following the Revolution, we are part of the worldwide Angelican Communion whose roots are ancient and catholic (universal: the whole faith for all time, everywhere and for everyone) and whose attitudes are influenced by, but not created by, the Protestant Reformation. While we have a rich heritage that can be traced through the succession of bishops back to the early church commissioned by Jesus, we are always trying to understand what God is doing today and what God wants us to do today. We do this using the Bible, reason, and tradition; the interplay of all three is always dynamic, never frozen, and frequently leads to diverse ideas and convictions. St. Nicholas helps support community services, such as Meals on Wheels and Hospice, maintains an emergency food pantry, and has responded to international needs as well. We have a Sunday School, an adult Bible study, and we share resources with neighboring parishes, especially Zion, in providing programs and events that we can do more effectively together. |
